PVMMiWeb, is a concept created by PVMM to promote intelligent Web. Having created quite a few website since 1998, and having had the chance to be the webmaster for several websites since, I have realised there was quite a few possibilities to improve the way websites are created to improve the usability and provide a better experience for the user.
PVMMiWeb was started in the summer of 2003, the idea was to create a model to allow better web experience for the user through the use of better and simplified technologies. At a large scale, corporate website are often driven by large databases, which smaller websites cannot always support by lack of technology and resources. So PVMMiWeb is meant as a simple intermediary solution between these two extremes. Coming from a designer point of view I needed to find a simple solution that would allow designers to create powerful content driven website, without having to know so much about the coding taking place behind the scene.
Having this in mind, looking through the different available projects developed among the open source of the Internet. PVMMiWeb has been developed using different technologies now available for the Internet: PHP, CSS, XML, etc... Bearing in mind that PVMMiWeb needs to be kept simple and easy to implement, these technologies do provide sufficient possibilities to have a powerful solution. Also, the concept of PVMMiWeb needs to be sufficiently flexible to adapt to either extreme and allow web developers and designers to create website having the right balance between design and content driven websites.
How does PVMMiWeb works?
The leading idea of PVMMiWeb is the separation of the content and the design of the website. The simplest solution for this would be a database, yet this is not always the only way to consider web development. To facilitate the access to "intelligent" web PVMMiWeb will look into finding simple technical solutions allowing any content to be added from either a simple interface, or even a content generated file.
Another important element of PVMMiWeb is the ability to get ride of all the redundancy websites can create by the self generation of files, structure and elements of the website. Websites are no more intelligent than computers, yet we designers are, so PVMMiWeb wants to create a structure that will make websites more dynamic from which the content will be self generated at any time and place the user is on the entire website. This will also profit the user with a faster access to the data within the website. Which should improve the user experience.
The whole idea behind this concept is to find the best balance between the following elements: good web design, ease of navigation, faster loading of files and content. Basically, making websites easier to use, while providing users with a more enjoyable web experience.
